First introduced by Renwal Products of Mineola, New York, in 1959, “The Visible Man” was created as a hands-on science assembly project that revealed the structure of the human body layer by layer. Its transparent outer shell exposes a detailed skeletal system and removable internal organs, allowing the figure to be assembled, examined, and taken apart for study.

Designed by celebrated sculptor and toy designer Marcel Jovine, this approximately 1:5-scale anatomical figure stands around 15 inches tall when assembled. The original model became a mid-century classroom icon and was reissued under several different manufacturers in later decades. This example retains the dramatic early Renwal “Patent Pending” packaging rather than a later Revell or Skilcraft box.

This set includes the clear anatomical figure, skeleton and organ components shown, original fitted box, assembly materials, and the illustrated “An Introduction to Anatomy” handbook. The striking black-and-yellow box artwork alone makes it an exceptional display piece for a cabinet of curiosities, medical collection, vintage science collection, or anatomical study.

CONDITION

Authentic vintage condition with wear consistent with more than 65 years of age. The original box displays considerable surface rubbing, scratches, creasing, edge and corner wear, discoloration, and small tears or separations. The interior packaging and printed materials show age and handling wear. The clear molded body and anatomical components may exhibit age-related toning, surface marks, and brittleness.

The model is currently stored partially assembled inside its original fitted box. Due to the number of small vintage components, completeness has not been independently verified. Everything included is pictured; please examine all photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the description.
